Alateen

Alateen is part of the Al-Anon Family Groups and is a fellowship of young Al-Anon members, usually teenagers, whose lives have been affected by someone else’s drinking.

All Alateen Groups in Colorado must register with the Colorado Area and WSO, and all Al-Anon members performing Alateen service must complete the AMIAS (Al-Anon Members Involved in Alateen Service) certification application forms and submit them to the (AAPP) Area Alateen Process Person before groups can start meeting or be recognized by the Area and WSO.

The Alateen Coordinator acts as liaison between the WSO and Colorado Area AMIAS and is a source of up to date information about current WSO Alateen policies. The Coordinator also may schedule Alateen speakers at Area events and provides AMIAS training. The Coordinator is a certified AMIAS and Alateen Sponsor who assists in Colorado Area Alateen outreach works closely with the AAPP.

By contrast, the AAPP (Area Alateen Process Person) answers questions about and handles the paperwork of AMIAS certification and re-certification. The AAPP also maintains a spreadsheet of AMIAS.

AMIAS are certified through the Colorado Area Alateen process, and have made a commitment to be of service to an Alateen meeting on a regular basis.  The Colorado Area Alateen Safety Guidelines and Procedures outline the minimum requirements for AMIAS in the Colorado Area.

Alateen Sponsors

Every Alateen group needs an active, adult member of Al-Anon to serve as sponsor. The sponsor is an active part of the group, guiding and sharing knowledge of our Twelve Steps and Alateen Traditions.

If you are at least 21 years old, have been an active member of Al-Anon for at least two years, and you are willing to share your program, Alateen sponsorship may be for you.

The full text of the Area 5 Alateen Safety Guidelines and Procedures give the details on these requirements, and where they originate.  They are listed here as well as the certification forms for becoming an AMIAS.

The Alateen certification forms for AMIAS can be scanned and emailed to aapp@al-anon-co.org  or contact the AAPP person at this email for the correct postal mailing address.

Alateen Participation in Events

Whenever Alateen is included in local or Area events, the event must be in compliance with Area Alateen Safety and Behavioral Requirements. Special events provide the opportunity for Alateen and Al-Anon members to share recovery with others outside of their groups. As with all things Alateen, safety is our primary concern. This following forms need to be completed for an Alateen to attend an Area event.
